The Regional Maritime University holds matriculation ceremony honoring distinguished students

The Regional Maritime University recently hosted its 21st and 9th Matriculation ceremony, welcoming about 950 students who have been admitted to pursue a variety of postgraduate degrees and diploma programmes. The ceremony, held at the Parade Grounds of the university, marked the beginning of exciting journeys for the aspiring freshmen and women.

The ceremony commenced with an address from the Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr. who warmly welcomed the incoming students and emphasized the importance of academic excellence and personal growth. The Acting VC’s inspiring words set the tone for the event, instilling a sense of enthusiasm and determination among the attendees. He encouraged females to take up sea-going programmes in order to bridge the gender gap within the Maritime Industry.

Following the Acting Vice Chancellor’s address, the University Registrar, Dr. Baboucarr Njie also took the stage to congratulate the incoming students on their academic achievements. The Registrar highlighted the significance of the matriculation ceremony as a symbolic rite of passage, marking the beginning of their academic pursuit.

Amidst the pomp and grandeur of the occasion, several students stood out for their exceptional achievements and contributions. These outstanding individuals were honored with the prestigious Dean’s Award, a recognition reserved for those who have demonstrated exemplary performance and dedication. As part of the ceremony, the Dean’s Award was presented to a selected group of students who had excelled in their academic pursuits and demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. These students were selected based on their outstanding academic performance, as well as their contributions to the university community through research, extracurricular activities, and community service.
