Entry requirement for Diploma programmes:

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR 2-YEAR DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

WASSCE/SSSCE/NECO Holders: Applicants must have passes in six [6] subjects (A1-D7/A-D) including English Language and Mathematics and a minimum of C6 in three (3) passes in any elective subjects.
General Certificate of Education (GCE) Holders: Applicants must have ‘O’ Level credit in five [5] subjects (including Mathematics & English Language), plus G.C.E. ‘A’ Level passes in any two (2) subjects.
GBCE: Applicants must have credit passes (A-D) in five (5) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus two (2) relevant elective subjects.
For Diploma Engineering programmes applicants must have credit (D7) in Physics and Elective Mathematics.

Applying with an HND?

Applicants must have at least a minimum of 2nd Class Lower from a recognized Tertiary Institutions.
Entry Levels
HND holders with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division pursuing the same programme would be admitted to level 300.
HND holders with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division changing programme would be admitted into level 200.

Can I get a brief about the University?

The Regional Maritime University (RMU) is an international tertiary institution mandated to train personnel for the maritime, oil and gas and ancillary industries.

General admission entry requirements for sea-going and engineering programmes

(i.) B.Sc. MARINE ENGINEERING/B.Sc. ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING/ B.Sc. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING /COMPUTER SCIENCE /COMPUTER ENGINEERING/ B.Sc. NAUTICAL SCIENCE
• WASSCE/SSSCE/NECO holders: Applicants must have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in the following Three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credits (A1-C6) in three elective Subjects which must include Physics and Elective Mathematics with an aggregate score of 24 on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE scale or better or G.C.E ‘O’ Level Holders with credits in five subjects including English and Mathematics or equivalent qualifications.

B.Sc. PORTS AND SHIPPING ADMINISTRATION & B.Sc. LOGISTICS
MANAGEMENT
WASSCE/SSSCE/NECO holders with credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies plus credits (A1-C6) in three (3) elective subjects with an aggregate score of 24 on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE scale or better
OR G.C.E. ‘O’ Level holders with credits in at least five G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects (including English Language and Mathematics plus at least three passes at Advanced Level
OR Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) with credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) or SSSCE or WASSCE or NECO or any other equivalent qualification.

Mature Students’ Entry Route (All Programmes)

Applicants must be at least 25 years old, and would have to show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application, and pass ‘Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by the University in (English Language, Mathematics and Aptitude Test).

Entry Requirement for all the M.Sc. Programmes

A good first degree in Engineering with at least a Second Class Lower Division from a recognized University.
Applicants with B.Sc. in the Physical Sciences will be considered if they have, at least, one (1) year relevant industry experience.
Applicants with Third class in related fields, with at least two years (2) industry experience may be considered. Such applicants will be subject to an interview and/ with entrance examination.

Entry requirements for M.A Ports and Shipping.

For M.A Ports and Shipping Administration, the entry requirements are:
A good First Degree with at least a Minimum of 2nd Lower Division from a recognized University.
OR
The highest grade Certificate of Competency for unrestricted service as Master Mariner or Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy.

Entry Requirements for Marine Engine Mechanic

Middle School Leaving Certificate/Basic Education Certificate (JHS), SSSCE, WASSCE G.C.E. ‘O’ Level or equivalent

Entry Requirements for Welding:

Middle School Leaving Certificate or Basic Education Certificate (JHS), Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), WASSCE, G.C.E ‘O’ Level or equivalent Technical Certificate and HND.

Entry Requirements for refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic:

West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)/Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSCE) Holders: Pass in three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science, plus elective Technical Drawing OR Basic Education Certificate Examination and minimum of two (2) years refrigeration and air condition apprenticeship.

Entry requirements for Pre Sea Vocational program

Middle School Leaving Certificate or Basic Education Certificate (JHS/JSS), Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), WASSCE, GCE ‘O’ Level or equivalent Technical Certificate and HND. The above programme is endorsed by the Ghana Maritime Authority as a pre-requisite for the issuance of the Seaman’s Discharge Book.

Can transcript be sent by email or courier service?

Yes, transcript (s) can be sent by courier/ email to applicants or an institution outside the country upon request by the applicant. All charges for the processing of the documents will be paid by the applicant.

Procedures for eligibility.

You are required to obtain a letter for Confirmation of Sea-Service from the Regional Maritime University (Nungua).
You must send the confirmation letter to the Ghana Maritime Authority, proceed to the Accounts Department and make payment in respect of processing for the eligibility.
You are to submit the letter with all supporting documents (i.e. copies of Discharge book entries, copies of all certificates held, copies of sea service testimonials and payment receipt) to the Registry of Ghana Maritime Authority.
In a situation where certificates held by applicant were not issued by the Ghana Maritime Authority, applicants must provide the address of the issuing Authority for verification purposes.
Ghana Maritime Authority takes fourteen (14) working days for eligibility letters to be issued.

Exchange rate for undergraduate programmes

The University maintained an exchange rate which is less than the prevailing inter-bank rate at any point in time. The prevailing rate in usually quoted in the admission letter.

Does the University accept a change of name?

No, however a lady can change her name after presentation or relevant marriage documents.

Please what is the procedure for processing transcripts for an Institution outside Ghana?

Answer: Transcript (s) is/ are sent by courier or via email to applicants or any institution outside the country upon request by the applicant. The applicant bears the charges for the processing of transcript as well as the courier charges.
