MSc. Bio-Processing Engineering

The field of bioprocessing engineering also referred to as biochemical engineering is a unique and vibrant study area which deals with the development of processes, technologies and equipment for the conversion of biological raw materials to agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and fuels. It has attracted the largest attention currently due to the global emphasis on sustainable development and environmental protection. The specific areas of process and product development within this discipline include;

  • Agricultural products (food crops, processed foods, animal feed, composts etc.)
  • Pharmaceutical products (antibiotics, hormonal and dietary supplements, vaccines etc.)
  • Beverage production (beer, wine, fruit juices etc.)
  • Enzyme production and applications
  • Fuels and organic acids production
  • Polymer production (plastics, biopolymers etc.)
  • Fermentation technologies
  • Environmental biotechnology (biowaste and wastewater treatment)

The MSc Bio-Processing Engineering programme at RMU is designed to equip students with the fundamental and technical tools required to better understand, improve and develop new and sustainable processes and technologies in the conversion of biological raw materials to various useful products. Research is also at the heart of this programme. Students will therefore be required to undertake a research project relevant to the development of sustainable processes and technologies in applied biotechnology. They are given the liberty to explore any of the diverse areas of bioprocessing including agricultural, pharmaceutical, fuel and environmental biotechnology with emphasis on solving industrial and communal problems. 

The job prospects after school for our students are very wide. They include: direct jobs with food and beverage industries, paper and pulp industries, environmental institutions, pharmaceutical industries, government agencies, ministries and district assemblies; waste management companies, research & development facilities and academia. Students will also be highly equipped through the programme to begin their own entrepreneurial ventures and projects within the field of study.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants must have a good first degree in Engineering with at least second class Lower Division from a recognized University. Applicants with a B.Sc. in the Physical Sciences will be considered if they have at least one (1) year relevant work experience. The University may consider applicants who posses a third class but with at least 2 years’ industry experience. Such applicants will be subject to an interview.
  2. Applicants must submit the following with applications:

  • Certified copies of transcript and certificate
  • Personal statement of not more than 500 words (1.5 pages) detailing your motivation for wanting to study the course and what you believe you will gain from it.

MSc Renewable Energy Engineering

Renewable Energy Engineering primarily focuses on the development and application of sustainable and renewable energy technologies. This includes:

  • Design, optimisation, field applications and efficiencies of renewable energy technologies.
  • Policies, regulations and project planning in relation to renewable energy generation.
  • Environmental and social impact of renewable energy technologies.
  • Market potential and barriers to the use of renewable energy technologies.

The MSc Renewable Energy Engineering programme at RMU is designed to equip students with the fundamental and technical operating principles of renewable energy generation processes and technologies. These principles are intended to help them improve old processes and technologies; and design new ones.  Research is at heart of the programme. Students will therefore be required to undertake a research project relevant to the development of sustainable and renewable energy systems with emphasis on solving industrial and communal energy problems. 

The job prospects after school for our students are wide. They include direct jobs with public and private energy generation industries and institutions, renewable energy technology sale and distribution companies; government agencies and ministries, research & development facilities and academia. Students will also be highly equipped through the programme to begin their own entrepreneurial ventures and projects within the field of study.

MSc. Environmental Engineering

Environmental engineers are most essential to the protection of the environment and for the proper management of our natural resources. The environmental engineering field primarily deals with the development of processes and technologies in;

  • Communal and industrial safety
  • Air quality and pollution control 
  • Water and wastewater management
  • Solid waste management
  • Hazardous waste management
  • Clean energy generation
  • Environmental biotechnology

The MSc Environmental Engineering programme at RMU is designed to equip students with the fundamental and technical tools required to better understand and improve processes and technologies in relation to environmental pollution control and natural resource conservation. Research is also at the heart of the programme. Students will therefore be required to undertake a research project relevant to the development of sustainable processes and technologies to protect the environment and conserve natural resources with emphasis on solving industrial and communal environmental problems. 

The job prospects after school for our students are very wide. They include: consulting for public and private industries and institutions; direct jobs with environmental and safety units of various industries including oil and gas, food processing, mining and marine industries; direct jobs with government agencies, ministries and district assemblies, waste management companies, research & development facilities and academia. Students will also be highly equipped through the programme to begin their own entrepreneurial ventures and projects within the field of study.

MA in Ports and Shipping Administration (with University of Ghana)

Eligibility Criteria:

A good First Degree with at least a Minimum of 2nd Lower Division in any of the following:

Social Sciences; Business Administration; Maritime Discipline and other related Disciplines from a recognized University, plus not less than two (2) years post-qualification working experience in Logistics or Maritime related organization.
or

The highest grade Certificate of Competency for unrestricted service as Master Mariner or Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy.
