B.Sc. ACCOUNTING

Programme Objective

The objective of the programme is to train students to acquire accounting and business management skills in a maritime educational environment so that they can fit into diverse roles at the required level of management of the accountancy profession in industry, commerce, and academia in the private or public sectors of the economies of member states, non-member states, and across the globe.

Career and Professional Prospects

  1. Graduates of B.SC. Accounting programme can obtain exemptions to study to become chartered Accountants, Auditors and Tax professionals with any of the professional bodies. (ICAG, ACCA, CIMA, CIT)
  2. Graduates of the B.SC. Accounting programme can gain employment as: Accounts officers, Audit assistants, Bookkeepers, Accounting IT support technicians, Tax officers, Payroll officers, Budget officers.

WASSCE Applicants: An applicant must have credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus any three (3) electives subjects in business, General Arts or Science.

SSSCE Applicants: An applicant must have credit passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus any three (3) electives subjects in Business, Arts or Science.

HND Holders:    

Applicants with Business related programme certificates (Accounting, Marketing, Purchasing and Supply and Business Administration) with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from accredited Tertiary Institutions may be admitted into level 300 first semester (semester 5).

Fees

The course for the programme is GHc 4,200 (Four thousand two hundred cedis) per academic year.

  • WASSCE/SSCE Applicants- 4 years

HND Holders- 2 years

 

BSC. PROCUREMENT AND OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

Programme Objectives

The programme aims to produce procurement and operations management students with training in maritime-related knowledge, as well as the mindset, discipline, and skill set necessary to perform the duties of procurement and operations management professionals in public and private organizations.

  1. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Procurement and Operations Management can find employment in public and private maritime and allied industries procurement and logistics organizations.

DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTING WITH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Programme Objectives

This program equips students with fundamental accounting skills and knowledge of accounting software applications. All Accounting Software courses are based on certified content from Sage 50 Accounting, Pastel, Tally Solution, intuit UK, and Sage 50 Accounting. This enables students to complement their academic studies with practical accounting software applications.

Academic Progression and Career Prospects

  1. Graduates of the Diploma in Accounting with Information Technology may be admitted to level 200 (second year) of the B.Sc. Accounting programme upon successful completion.
  2. Graduates who do not enroll in the BSc Accounting Programme must be able to effectively contribute to the integration of Information Technology (IT) and financial accounting in the public and private sectors as:
  • Accounts officers
  • Bookkeepers
  • IT Technicians
  • Tax support
  • Payroll clerks
  • Audit assistants

WASSCE and SSSCE Applicants

Applicants must have six [6] passes (A1-D7) as follows:

  1. Three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies in Business, General Arts and Sciences
  2. Three credits in Elective (A1-D7) in three elective Subjects with an aggregate score of 36on the WASSCE scale or 24 on the SSSCE Scale or better in Business, General Arts or Science

Fees

The course for the programme is GHc3,000 (three thousand cedis) per academic year which covers course materials, tuition, student registration, assessments, and examinations, etc

Global trends in industrial production, trade and transport has created the need for specialist training of manpower to fill important gaps that have emerged in logistics and supply chains e.g. warehousing/distribution, shipping and indeed total transport management documentation and etc.

The general objective is to educate and train supervisory/ middle level managers/operatives to handle the various activities in both domestic and international supply chains.

  • WASSCE/SSSCE/GBCE/NECO holders: Applicants must have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in the following Three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Integrated Science /Social Studies plus credits (A1-C6/A-D) in three elective Subjects in General Arts, Home Economics, Visual Arts, Business or General Science with an aggregate score of not less than 36 on the WASSCE scale or not less than 24 on the SSSCE/NECO Scales or better.

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Holders: Applicants must have credits in at least five (5) G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least three (3) Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:  Other qualifications including;

i.International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects.

ii. Combined IGCSE and Cambridge – GCE ‘A’ and ‘O’ levels holders must have three relevant subjects at   

     the Cambridge ‘A’ Levels, in addition to at least five (5) passes including English and Mathematics at the

     Cambridge ‘O’ Level.

iii. American Grades 12 with a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0.

iv. City & Guilds Technician Part 3 and Advanced Technician Diploma, etc. in relevant subjects which are 

      equivalent to the SSSCE/WASSCE or the GCE will be considered.

v. Level 2 of Professional Accounting bodies such as ICAG, ICMA, ACCA etc.

 

HND HOLDERS ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  1. HND holders in Engineering programmes for items (‘a’ to ‘f’) with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from recognized Tertiary Institutions may be admitted to level 300.

 

  1. HND holders with Accounting or Banking and Finance for items (g) with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from recognized Tertiary Institutions may be admitted to level 300 and HND in other programmes will be admitted into level 200.

 

  1. HND holders in any field for item (‘h to ‘j’) with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from recognized Tertiary Institutions may be admitted to level 300.

PLEASE NOTE;
(a) B.Sc. LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT) with a year abroad.

The above programme is jointly run by the Regional Maritime University (RMU) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) China. The first, second years and fourth years will be at the Regional Maritime University, Ghana while the third year will be in Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), China.

 

HOWEVER, TRAVELLING TO SMU IS NOT AUTOMATIC. IT IS SUBJECT TO OBTAINING CHINESE ENTRY VISA.

 

  • The cut-off grade is aggregate 12.
  • Interested candidates must have the financial capacity to pay for a return ticket to China and also their upkeep whilst in China.
  • Applicants must not be more than 30 years at the commencement of the programme

 

(b) B.Sc. LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT (REGULAR/WEEKEND) without a year abroad

Applicants will pursue entire programme [i.e. year 1 to 4] at RMU, Ghana.

DOMESTIC APPLICANTS

[a]      The E-Voucher contains the Pin and Serial Number required in beginning the online form.

[b]      Access the online form by visiting the University’s online admissions portal www.rmu.edu.gh soon after payment.

[c]      In beginning the online application, students must click “APPLY” to start. Applicants are required to upload their passport size photographs.

[d]      A completed form is not considered until it is SUBMITTED.

[e]     Applicants are advised to check thoroughly all details entered before finally submitting their online applications. A form, once submitted, can be viewed, but cannot be edited.

[f]      Applicants must print out application summary; attach transcripts, certificates and all other relevant documents.  These documents should be forwarded to the Academic Registrar.
