The Regional Maritime University (RMU) has intensified its student outreach efforts in the Volta Region through a strategic sensitization exercise aimed at engaging final-year students currently writing the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on the vast opportunities available within the maritime industry.
The outreach team, made up of the Marketing Officer, Dr. Salifu Jobe, Marketing Assistant, Matilda Obeng, and Mr. Edem Agbeko of the Transport Section, visited selected senior high schools across the region to educate students on maritime education, professional training pathways, and career prospects within the global maritime sector.
The schools visited included Akome Senior High School, Dorfor Senior High School, Akatsi Senior High School, Mawuli Senior High School, Mawuko Girls Senior High School, OLA Girls Senior High School, Ziavi Senior High School, and Sonrise Senior High School.
During the engagements, students were introduced to the critical role of the maritime industry in global trade and economic development, as well as the numerous professional opportunities available in areas such as Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Logistics and Transport, Maritime Business, Port Operations, Maritime Safety and Security, and Ocean Governance.
The team particularly focused on encouraging the WASSCE candidates to strategically consider maritime education as a viable and rewarding career pathway after secondary education. Students were also taken through RMU’s admission requirements, available academic programmes, professional short courses, and the University’s unique position as a leading maritime institution serving the West and Central African sub-region.
In addition to the final-year students, the outreach exercise provided a unique opportunity for the team to further engage Headmasters and Mistresses on the RMU advantage and the growing relevance of maritime education in today’s interconnected global economy. The interactions created heightened interest among the Heads who expressed enthusiasm about inviting the team to promote careers within the maritime and related industries.
The University continues to strengthen its outreach initiatives across Ghana as part of efforts to increase awareness of maritime education and inspire the next generation of maritime professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to national, regional, and global development.
