

On Wednesday June 3rd, 2026, the RMU, in collaboration with the National Association for Heavy-Duty Equipment Operators Ghana (NAHEOG), held its 10th Graduation Ceremony for Forklift and Mobile Crane Operators and first cohort of Excavator Operators under the theme, “Skilled Youth for Accelerated Development.”

The ceremony marked the successful completion of an intensive eight-week training programme which, over the past, has produced nearly 500 certified operators equipped to serve industries across Ghana, the sub-region, and beyond.

In his remarks, the Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr., commended the graduates for making the deliberate decision to invest in themselves by acquiring practical, marketable, and in-demand skills. He noted that since its inception, the programme has stood the test of time, producing competent graduates who have excelled in various sectors of industry.

Speaking on the theme of the event, Dr. Brooks stated that economies do not develop on ambition alone but on skills, competence, and the ability to move, build, and position resources precisely where they are needed.
He emphasized that the quality of graduates produced through the programme reflects this philosophy. He further urged the graduates to uphold integrity and professionalism in their work and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, the Deputy Director of General Administration, Madam Reine Adzo Agbo, underscored the relevance of the programme to national growth. She observed that countries that have achieved rapid economic development have done so by investing in the skills and competencies of their young people.

According to her, the skills acquired by the graduates place them at the centre of critical sectors such as construction, mining, maritime services, logistics, manufacturing, transportation, and infrastructure development.
She reiterated the government’s commitment to policies that promote youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and skills development, adding that institutions such as NAHEOG and RMU remain strategic partners in preparing young people for the future of work.
The President of NAHEOG, Mr Dominic Eyiah, stated that the association remains committed to collaborating with government agencies, training institutions, and industry stakeholders to support curriculum development, practical training, certification, and mentorship programmes.

He noted that through such partnerships, a new generation of highly skilled operators can be developed to contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic transformation.
The Head of the Marine Engineering Department at RMU, Dr. Vindex Domeh, also emphasized the need for young people to acquire relevant and sustainable skills to advance national development and enhance their employability in an increasingly competitive job market.
