The Regional Maritime University (RMU) is collaboration with Lamar Marine, a Dubai-based company renowned for its expertise in boat building, firefighting, and oil rig construction. This partnership was revealed during a meeting held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the VC’s lounge at RMU campus.
Mohamed Saleh ALShareef, the Managing Director of Lamar Marine, expressed the company’s plan to construct a warehouse and workshop for the assembly of boats made from lightweight and durable fiber optics. These boats are set to serve the Ghanaian and West African markets, primarily for monitoring, security, and fishing purposes, offering enhanced safety features and improved fuel efficiency.

In their display of corporate social responsibility, Mr. Saleh announced Lamar Marine’s commitment to clearing debris from the lagoon, extending from the entry point to the university. This initiative will include the construction of custom-made boats designed specifically for the removal of plastics and other waste from the lagoon. The reclaimed waste will be reused, transforming the area into a vibrant tourist attraction site with water sports facilities. He also emphasized Lamar Marine’s dedication to environmentally friendly and non-toxic operational practices.
Prashant Kamath, a member of the Board of Directors at Lamar Marine Services Limited, emphasized the advantages of incorporating speedboats into Ghana’s transportation system. He stressed that this mode of transport has the potential to reduce costs, travel time, and contribute to saving lives, particularly in areas with limited road access.
Lamar Marine Services assured RMU of their strict adherence to the regulations and standards set by the Ghana Maritime Authority, emphasizing their commitment to conducting activities that will not harm the water and fishing sector, drawing on their extensive experience as a boat company since 1973.

Dr. Jethro W. Brooks, the Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU, lauded the initiative and pledged the University’s full support. He emphasized the significance of the partnership in providing students with practical exposure to deepen their knowledge and understanding of marine engineering.
