Regional Maritime University holds orientation for 2023- 2024 new entrant

The Regional Maritime University (RMU) has organized an orientation programe for new entrant for the 2023-2024 academic year group on Wednesday 13th September2023.

The two (2) day orientation is aimed at familiarizing new students with their new campus, academic programs as well as policies, procedures, resources and opportunities available to them.

Addressing the students, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jnr.  Ag, Vice Chancellor of the University emphasized the paramount importance of setting clear goals and developing strategies to achieve them. He urged the students to recognize that their aspirations could be fulfilled through unwavering dedication and hard work throughout their tertiary education.

A SECTION OF STUDENTS FOR THE 2023-2024 ACADAMIC YEAR

 

Dr. Brooks Jnr. underscored the critical role of effective time management in achieving academic excellence. He encouraged the newly admitted students to engage in research and encouraged students to embrace new challenges with campus life in RMU.

He emphasized that confronting difficulties would expand their knowledge and experiences, ultimately strengthening their character underscoring the importance of processing information effectively to elicit the right responses and actions.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor highlighted the accessible support system within the university, assuring students that their needs were of paramount interest to the university’s management. He encouraged students to consult any office, including his own, whenever required.

Dr. Denis Njumo Atehnjia, the PROVOST RMU, shared his personal journey with the incoming students. He encouraged them to be curious, ambitious, focused, and diligent, reminding them that in just two (2) to four(4) years, they would become esteemed alumni of the university. He reflected, “20 years ago, I sat where you sit now. Let your roots shoot as students of RMU.”

STAFFS AND STUDENTS AT THE ORIENTATION

Professor Captain Nana Ofosu Boateng, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies, provided insight into the structure of the faculty. He outlined its three departments – Nautical, Transport, Business Studies, and the Maritime Safety Department – highlighting the significance of the students’ academic journey. He encouraged them to view their education as an opportunity to profoundly impact the Global Maritime Industry and contribute to the sustainable and efficient management of oceans and waterways.

The two (2)-day orientation helped students meet other students, faculty and staff members to build a sense of community and belonging. It was witnessed by all university management, Heads of Departments, Faculty members, and selected senior staffs
