First Vice Chancellor’s Parade and Inspection of 2026 held at the Regional Maritime University (RMU)

It was an exhilarating spectacle, highlighted by an impressive display of military drills, as the first Vice Chancellor’s Parade and Inspection of 2026 was held at the Regional Maritime University in Accra on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

The remarkable performance by about 130 cadets, from four contingents drawn from Marine Engineering (Diploma and BSc) and Nautical Science (Diploma and BSc), with support from the RMU Regimental Band, earned resounding applause from management, staff and students.

 

With flawless precision, the cadets impressed the audience through crisp leg turns, immaculate alignments, coordinated squadron marches, disciplined column formations and the seamless execution of drills.

The inspection was part of the university’s activities to assess the cadets’ readiness for future endeavours while providing an opportunity to address any areas of improvement.

In his remarks following the inspection, the Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr. emphasised the significance of the parade and inspection ceremony as a cherished tradition designed to reinforce RMU’s commitment to excellence and discipline.

He pointed out that the event also served as an opportunity to demonstrate the cadets’ loyalty to the institution and recognize the hard work and dedication of students, staff and faculty.

The Acting Vice Chancellor urged students to continue serving as ambassadors for the university by embracing the core values of discipline, hard work and service, and to make a positive impact on their communities.

He also underscored the importance of upholding the highest standards of ethics and morality while constantly striving for personal and academic growth.

Ongoing inspection as the Mess

He noted that the Academic Council’s decision requiring all third- and fourth-year students to be fully uniformed had produced excellent results, adding that they were proud and impressed by how neat and dignified the students appeared.

Dr. Brooks Jr. assured the university community that management would continue to improve campus facilities to ensure a comfortable environment for students. He also encouraged students to take responsibility for the upkeep of university facilities.

Dr Brooks also expressed his gratitude to the staff and faculty of RMU for their unwavering support of students and their contribution to advancing the university’s vision.
