NEWLY INTRODUCED PROGRAMMES

  1. DIPLOMA IN BANKING TECHNOLOGY AND ACCOUNTING.
  2. DIPLOMA IN COMPUTERIZED ACCOUNTING

The Regional Maritime University – (RMU), Faculty of International Business and Humanities invites prospective applicants to enroll in its newly introduced Programmes i.e. Diploma Banking and Accounting and Diploma in Computerized Accounting. The programmes are accredited and certified by the National Board for Professional and Technicians Examinations (NABPTEX). Graduates of this programmes will receive in addition to the Diploma certificate, certificates of completion from the University (RMU) 

  1. DIPLOMA IN BANKING TECHNOLOGY AND ACCOUNTING.

This program aims at creating a pool of competent techno-bankers for the Banking & IT Sector by imparting in-depth knowledge and expertise to the students through innovative learning supported by extensive hands-on experience in labs as well as in real banking environments. By bridging the gap between industry and academia, the DBT program aims at creating Techno Bankers. 

The course delivers a combination of classroom instruction and practical work at the computer laboratory. The computer-based courses should be delivered hands-on with an emphasis on syndicate group studies, case studies, practical work, and student presentations. Seminars may be organized regularly, where IT and Banking practitioners are invited to talk to students about current issues in IT and Banking.

At the end of the program, graduates; 

  • Will be able to provide an effective contribution to integrating Accounting skills with Banking Software Applications in a practical working environment.
  • Should have practicing knowledge in Accounting Principles, Banking Operations, and Risk Management. 
  • Will be engaged in regular Practitioners’ forums where IT and Banking practitioners will be invited to talk to students about current issues in IT and Banking Technology.
  • Will be able to provide support to the ever-increasing financial sector requirements of modern organizations using the power of Banking Technology. 
  • Upon successful completion of the program, applicants may be admitted into level 200 of the B.Sc. Accounting Program of the University.

  1. DIPLOMA IN COMPUTERIZED ACCOUNTING

This programme provides students with core accounting skills as well as working knowledge of Accounting applications software. The course delivers a combination of technology and business-related modules every academic year for two academic years. All Accounting Software courses are designed around accredited material from our Software Partners such as Sage 50 Accounting, Pastel, Tally Solutions, Intuit UK, Sage 50 Accounting. This affords students the opportunity to complement academic studies with hands-on Accounting software applications.

At the end of the programme, graduates; 

  • Will be able to provide effective contribution to integrating Information Technology (IT) with Financial Reporting to fulfill roles such as: Accounts clerks, Bookkeepers, IT Technicians, Tax support, Payroll clerks etc. in almost every sector which requires accounting services.
  • Should have practicing knowledge in Accounting principles, Managerial accounting, Financial Accounting, Spreadsheet Accounting, Taxation, Database Management Systems, Networking and Internet Technology among others. 
  • Will be able to integrate Accounting skills with relevant Accounting Software Applications in real working environments.  
  • Will be engaged in regular Practitioners’ forums where IT and Accounting practitioners will be invited to talk to students about current issues in IT and Accountancy.
  • Will be able to provide support to the ever increasing financial reporting requirements of modern organizations using the power of Information Technology. 
  • Upon successful completion of the programme, applicants may be admitted into level 200 of the B.Sc. Accounting Programme of the University.

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Integrated Science /Social Studies plus credits (A1-D) in three elective Subjects in General Arts, Home Economics, Visual Arts, Business or General Science with an aggregate score of not less than 36 on the WASSCE scale or not less than 24 on the SSSCE/ NECO Scales or better.  

B.   O’LEVEL/GBCE AND A’LEVEL/ABCE APPLICANTS 

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Holders: Applicants must have credits in at least five (5) G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least three (3) Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:  Other qualifications including;

  1.  International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects.
  2. Combined IGCSE and Cambridge – GCE ‘A’ and ‘O’ levels holders must have three relevant subjects at the Cambridge ‘A’ Levels, in addition to at least five (5) passes including English and Mathematics at the Cambridge ‘O’ Level.
  3.  American Grades 12 with a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0.
  4. Level 2 of Professional Accounting bodies such as ICAG, ICMA, ACCA etc.  

C. MATURE APPLICANTS

I. Must be at least 25 years at the time of application.

II. Must have 5 credit at the GCE ‘O’ Level, including English Language, Core Mathematics,

Integrated Science and three Elective subjects at the SSSCE/WASSCE level.

i. Must provide documentary evidence of relevant work experience

ii. Must pass a Departmental examination and interview

DURATION OF COURSES 

The total duration for the Programmes (Diploma in Accounting and Banking Technology and Diploma in computerized Accounting) is two years (Four Semesters). All students who pass all courses with a total CGPA of at least 1.5 at the end of the second year will be awarded a Diploma in Banking Technology or Diploma in Computerized Accounting.

NOTE: Students who obtain a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.0 will have the option to progress to the second year HND Accounting with Computing.

COURSE FEE 

The course fee for each programme PER ACADEMIC YEAR is GHc2,200 and covers course materials, tuition, student registration, assessments, and examinations, etc.

[I] DOMESTIC APPLICANTS

All applicants are required to use the Regional Maritime University [RMU] online application portal.  The procedure for the online application process is as follows:

[a] The E-Voucher contains the Pin and Serial Number required to complete the online form.

[b] Access the online form by visiting the University’s online admissions portal at www.rmu.edu.gh/admissions after payment.

[c] In beginning the online application, students must click “APPLY TO RMU” to start. Students will be required to upload their passport size photographs. 

 [d] In completing the online form, students will be required to upload their passport size 

photographs.

 [e]    A completed form is not considered until it is SUBMITTED.

[f]    Applicants must print out application summary; attach transcripts, certificates and all other relevant documents.  These documents should be forwarded to the Academic Registrar. 

 [g]    Candidates are strongly advised to visit Courier Companies in their Countries for assistance towards the return of the application documents [see f].
