
On May 28, 2025, the Regional Maritime University (RMU) organized a specialized seminar aimed at enhancing staff understanding of general ship knowledge and architectural design. The event formed part of the university’s ongoing commitment to professional development and maritime excellence.

The seminar was spearheaded by the Research and Innovation Department, under the leadership of Dr. Robert Nyemah, in collaboration with the Marine Engineering Department, led by Ing. Joseph Mante. It featured insightful presentations and engaging hands-on training sessions tailored to boost technical capacity across departments.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr., commended the initiative as a commendable step towards staff capacity building. He emphasized the importance of such training programs in ensuring the university remains at the forefront of maritime education and encouraged continuous staff development.

Highlights of the technical session included a presentation by Assistant Lecturer, Mr. George Obeng, who provided a comprehensive overview of ship history, structural design, crew responsibilities, and an immersive virtual ship tour. The session was followed by a practical onboard training on the rescue boat donated by MODEC, offering participants a rare firsthand experience of essential ship components.

The seminar also featured a session led by Dr. Eric B. Duncan, Coordinator of Student Affairs, who spoke on the importance of leadership, teamwork, and customer service. He encouraged staff to embrace a positive cultural shift to enhance service delivery and foster a unified work environment.
