

ABS on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, paid a working visit to the RMU in Accra as part of its commitment to supporting the University’s scholarship fund.

The visit was also aimed at engaging RMU management and staff, managers of the scholarship fund, as well as student beneficiaries to monitor the progress of the initiative and ensure its continuity.
The three-member ABS delegation comprised the Vice President for Human Resources, Njsane Courtney; Area Operations Manager for Africa, Levant Karabulut; and Principal Surveyor in Charge for Ghana and Cameroon, Steve Bimpeh.

Currently, five students are benefiting from the ABS scholarship scheme. They are Ezekiel Divine Momo (BSc Computer Engineering), Nolly Osei Tutu Nolly (BSc Electrical Engineering), Dapaah Minender Kwabena (BSc Electrical Engineering), Komla Bright Semanu (BSc Marine Engineering) and Bruce Mawulolo Kwane Kwawu (BSc Electrical Engineering).
Welcoming the ABS delegation, the Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr., expressed appreciation to ABS for its strong partnership with the University and noted that the relationship could be sustained and expanded to other areas of collaboration.

He stated that the scholarship support had been extremely beneficial, particularly as many brilliant, but financially challenged students continue to seek assistance. While RMU remains committed to expanding scholarship opportunities to reach more students, especially female students Dr Brooks noted that support from companies such as ABS would significantly help sustain the University’s efforts.
In view of the increasing student population, Dr Brooks also appealed to ABS to consider supporting the University in the construction of additional dormitories and modern lecture theatres to accommodate the growing numbers.
The Acting Vice Chancellor was joined at the meeting by the Head of the Marine Engineering Department, Dr Isaac Animah; the Head of the Transport Department, Dr Amewu Attah; and the Head of the Business Development Center, Madam Sika Attipoe.

Mr Levant Karabulut commended RMU for its efforts in training maritime professionals for the industry, particularly highlighting the University’s focus on increasing female enrollment and recruitment into the maritime sector.

He noted that ABS also places significant emphasis on female empowerment and strives to maintain a strong African representation within its workforce.

Additionally, ABS Vice President for Human Resources, Njsane Courtney, expressed interest in ensuring the sustainability of the scholarship programme, indicating that the initiative could potentially expand from covering tuition fees to providing full scholarships for brilliant but financially disadvantaged students.
He noted that ABS considers its support to RMU a worthwhile investment, adding that the organization is exploring additional initiatives such as awards for the best female students and further partnerships to strengthen maritime education and training in Africa.

The ABS delegation also expressed interest in participating in RMU’s upcoming ceremonies and welcomed the opportunity to deliver a presentation during the University’s career week in the near future.
