
The Regional Maritime University (RMU) on Friday the 26th of September 2025, climaxed its First Edition of the Customer Service Month celebrations with fun games, showcasing remarkable talents, teamwork and camaraderie among staff and students.

Participants competed in a wide range of activities including athletics, volleyball, basketball, football and popular indoor games such as ludo, scrabble and oware.
One of the biggest highlights of the event was a spirited eating competition that drew laughter and excitement from spectators.

The event provided a unique opportunity for staff to unwind and engage outside of their regular work environments, while allowing students to interact with faculties in a relaxed and informal setting. The friendly competition fostered a spirit of unity and mutual respect across the university community.

The event also featured a free eye screening exercise where students and staff had the opportunity to get their eyes checked and provided medication and glasses, where necessary.

At the end of the games, the students emerged victorious in several categories including football, basketball and volleyball, earning trophies and cheers for their efforts.

Despite the students’ dominance, several staff members impressed the crowd with their skill and stamina, proving strong contenders throughout the day.
The Ag. Vice Chancellor, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr., who also joined the football match, applauded the staff for participating wholeheartedly despite early morning rains.

“This is exactly what we hoped to achieve, bringing staff and students together to exercise, have fun and build relationships that strengthen the RMU community,” he stated.
Dr Brooks further emphasized the university’s commitment to making such events a regular feature, aiming to promote teamwork and unity in pursuit of RMU’s mission.

Other management members who joined the games included the University Registrar, Dr Baboucarr Njie, the Provost, Dr Denis Njumo Atehnjia and the Director of Finance, Madam Mary Frances Francis.
The students snatched almost all the trophies on the day
Chairman of the Customer Service Planning Committee, Dr Eric Duncan, highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong staff-student relationship and delivering quality service across all levels of the university.

He also expressed appreciation to the staff and committee members for their dedication and teamwork in organising what he described as a successful and memorable event, one that would become an annual tradition at RMU.
