On Wednesday the 17th of January 2024, the Operations Manager of Cruise Ship Crew-Gambia Mr Musa Drammeh paid an official visit to the RMU. The visit was in relation to the visit paid to his institution by the RMU Marketing Officer during the BoG in The Gambia in November of 2023. During the visit, Mr Drammeh informed the Marketing Officer that he has received demands for the supply of over 5000 workers to different shipping companies and that he was frantically looking for an appropriate partner who would provide STCW training for those workers.
During his visit, Director Drammeh talked about the expansion to his clientele by saying that he is now Dealing with six (6) shipping companies each demanding for similar number of workers amounting to about thirty-thousand (30,000) workers. According to him, this number cannot be mustered in The Gambia alone, as a result, he is coming to establish a recruitment programme in Ghana. The catch here is that, RMU will be running STCW trainings both in The Gambia and in Ghana starting as soon as possible.
A new domain was also opened regarding catering. After having been informed about the RMU’s plan to kick start programmes which catering is part of, he said that domain will also be explored in due course. The visit was capped by the signing of a Memorandum of Collaboration between the two institutions.
