Regional Maritime University (RMU) convenes 33rd committee of experts meeting

The 33rd Committee of Experts Meeting of the RMU officially opened in Accra on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The meeting, which precedes the Board of Governor’s meeting scheduled to commence on Friday, June 27, focuses on implementing strategies to elevate the standard of education at the University. The three-day engagement of the Committee of Experts aims to address key challenges, share knowledge, and develop actionable solutions that will positively impact the university’s growth and development. The meeting brought together a high-level delegation from the five member states: Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for their continued support towards the university’s advancement. He expressed optimism that the discussions would provide effective solutions to the challenges facing the RMU.

Chairman of the Committee of Experts, Mr Charles Kamanda, emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the university’s educational foundation and to ensure quality, equitable, and accessible maritime education for all.

He highlighted that discussions would focus on policy and research, community engagement, as well as academic and classroom concerns, all geared toward enhancing maritime education and training. Mr Kamanda called for robust and collaborative dialogue, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing students’ interests and fostering unity in raising educational standards.  He urged delegates to work diligently for the growth and sustainability of the university to benefit future generations.

In addition, the Acting Vice Chancellor delivered a presentation on the state of the university during the year under review, addressing challenges, progress made, proposed solutions, and the way forward.  He affirmed that the future of the RMU is promising and encouraged stakeholders to contribute actively to its continued success. Staff Representative, Mr. Felix Okpoti, also delivered a presentation, outlining measures to improve staff welfare, among other key issues.
