Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr is an Honorary Fellow of the Regional Maritime University. He has over ten (10) years of Experience in Education, Organizational and Institutional Restructuring, Design, and Improvement of Business Processes. Over the years, Mr. Brooks Jr. has been involved in several Research Extensions and Academic Assignments.

PROFILE:

Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr, is an Honorary Fellow of the Regional Maritime University (RMU). He has over sixteen (16) years of experience in education, organizational and institutional restructuring, design, and the improvement of business processes. Over the years, Dr. Brooks Jr., has been involved in several research extensions and academic assignments.  During the course of time, he provided management consultancy for the execution of several management and administrative training programs. These include the Ministry of Health of Liberia, the Medical Emergency and Cooperation International (MERC 1), Swedish Poly Clinic, Ministry of Public Works of Liberia, GTIZ of Liberia and the Road Transport and General Workers Union among others. Additionally, in 2013, he headed a Committee of Vice Presidents for the Academic Affairs that reviewed the country’s Freshmen and Sophomore Tertiary Curriculum. His strategic management experience, involvements and corporate governance span private and public sectors. At the Regional Maritime University, Dr. Brooks Jr., has been involved in an entire range of administrative and governance structures through which the University manages and delivers its services. He has exercised oversight responsibility from the implementation of  Budgets to ensure that institutional financial practices meet National and International Standards.

 

Dr. Njie has strong leadership competencies grounded in contemporary organization development principles, for which he had warranted an appreciation of aspirations and motivation, which Academic and Administrative employees emulate.

PROFILE:

From his experience as the former Director of Planning and Quality Assurance and Deputy Registrar (Academics) of the University of the Gambia, he has since been rooted in Implementation of Institutional Academic Policy and University’s Regulatory Framework. Dr. Njie is credited with realigning the Administration of the University to meet International Standards. He has Extensive Management Experience within the Administrative Machinery of a Tertiary Academic Institution. Dr. Njie is credited with the Development and Implementation of the Institutional Academic Policy and the University’s Academic Regulatory Framework.

Higher education Administration: Quality Assurance Implementation and Challenges in Higher Education; School Management; Research Methods.

ACHIEVEMENT:

Pioneered the setting up of many Administration support units of the University of the Gambia notably the Faculty of Education, the Personnel Unit:.  Successfully co-ordinated and implemented the National Mini-University Project that oriented and mentioned hundreds of High School students to the benefit and expectation of  university education in the Gambia.

PROFILE

Dr. Denis Njumo Atehnjia, a Maritime International Civil Servant and Senior Lecturer, is an Alumnus from the Regional Maritime University. He was appointed Provost of RMU in 2020. Prior to joining the Regional Maritime University as a Lecturer, he worked as a Senior Maritime Administrator in the Department of Maritime Affairs and Inland Waterways, Ministry of Transport, Cameroon. He was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to study PhD in Maritime Engineering with specialization in Shipyard Construction and Building in Liverpool John Moore’s University, UK. Dr. Atehnjia was nominated by the Ministry of Transport, Cameroon, to undergo further management studies in South Africa and Australia on Ocean Governance and Sustainable Fisheries sponsored by Commonwealth Scholarship Australia. Dr. Atehnjia was the Liaison Officer for industrial attachment in the Marine Engineering Department and served on various committees in the Regional Maritime University. He is a member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects and the Higher Education Academy, UK. He holds an Executive Certificate in Administration and Management.

 

ROLE AS PROVOST:

As the Provost, he reports to the Vice Chancellor and serves as the Head of the Academic Sector of the University on behalf of the Vice Chancellor with the responsibility of providing efficient/effective teaching, learning, and research in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the Strategic Plan of the University. The Provost superintends the works of the faculties and departments to achieve the objectives of the academic sector and ensures that all courses developed are in accordance with University’s Quality Management System (QMS). He is responsible for the coordination and supervision of all activities of the Academic Sector of the University. The Provost also facilitates the timely provision of educational logistics, coordinates the appointment of teaching staff, provides input for the formulation of educational policies, and prepares short and long term educational plans of the University.
