
The Regional Maritime University (RMU) commenced its orientation program for the January 2025 intake on Monday, January 20, with activities set to conclude on Wednesday, January 22. This three-day event is thoughtfully designed to help new students acclimate to their environment, understand the university’s rules, and prepare for a transformative academic journey.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAY ONE
During the opening session, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr., delivered an inspiring address, reassuring students of their wise decision to join RMU. He emphasized core values of discipline, respect, and hard work as essential pillars of success at the university. Dr. Brooks underscored the importance of understanding and adhering to RMU’s expectations while reminding students about the grievance management system. He encouraged them to use appropriate channels to resolve concerns.
In his remarks, Dr. Brooks also cautioned against academic dishonesty, stating,“It is better to earn an honest ‘F’ than a dishonest ‘A.’”
He reaffirmed the university’s dedication to improving facilities to ensure a conducive learning environment.

GUIDANCE FROM UNIVERSITY LEADERS
Dr. Baboucarr Njie, the University Registrar, echoed similar sentiments, advising students to steer clear of behaviors that could lead to suspension. He outlined RMU’s stringent rules governing examinations and other academic activities, emphasizing the importance of compliance.
Dr. Denis Atehnjia Njumo, the Provost, warmly welcomed the new cohort and assured them of RMU’s commitment to molding future leaders in the global maritime sector. He highlighted that RMU’s programs are aligned with international standards, equipping students to excel in the competitive maritime industry.

The orientation also featured addresses from the Deans of Faculties. Prof. S.O.B. Oppong, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, provided an overview of the faculty’s innovative programs designed to nurture technical expertise. Similarly, Prof. Nana Ofosu-Boateng, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies, highlighted the faculty’s focus on equipping students with practical and theoretical knowledge essential for success in the maritime field.
