
It was a thrilling spectacle amidst an outstanding display of military drills as the first Vice Chancellor’s Parade and Inspection of 2025 took place at the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra on Friday, April 4, 2025.
The exceptional display by approximately 140 cadets, received massive applause from management, invited guests, staff and students. The cadets captivated the audience with their flawless precision in leg turns, perfect alignments, squadron march, column of files and the execution of drills such as “present arms” and “order arms.”
After the parade, the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr. along with other members of RMU management, inspected several facilities including the front and back accommodations, sickbay and the cadet mess. The inspection was part of the university’s activities to assess the cadets’ readiness for future endeavours while providing an opportunity to address any areas of improvement.

In his remarks, the Ag. Vice Chancellor of RMU, Dr Brooks Jr., commended the cadets for their spectacular performance, which he noted was a reflection of the pride of the university.
Dr Brooks Jr. emphasised the significance of the parade and inspection ceremony as a cherished tradition designed to reinforce RMU’s commitment to excellence and discipline. He pointed out that the event also served as an opportunity to demonstrate the cadets’ loyalty to the institution and recognize the hard work and dedication of students, staff and faculty.
The Acting Vice Chancellor urged students to continue serving as ambassadors for the university by embracing the core values of discipline, hard work and service, and to make a positive impact on their communities. He also underscored the importance of upholding the highest standards of ethics and morality while constantly striving for personal and academic growth.

Dr Brooks Jr. assured the university community that management would continue to improve campus facilities to ensure a comfortable environment for students. He also encouraged students to take responsibility for the upkeep of university facilities.
As part of RMU’s efforts to maintain its position as a leading maritime training institution globally, Dr. Brooks revealed that the university would soon implement a continuation of cadetship compliance. Starting from the first semester of the 2025-2026 academic year, all third-year (300-level) and fourth-year (400-level) students would be required to wear uniforms in the same manner as first-year and second-year students.
Dr Brooks concluded by expressing his gratitude to the staff and faculty of RMU for their unwavering support of students and their contribution to advancing the university’s vision.
