Specifically tailored for participants from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the programme featured a robust curriculum designed to strengthen maritime security and improve port infrastructure management. Supervised by RMU’s Transport Department, under the leadership of Dr. Amewu Attah, and facilitated by Mr. Michael Dzikunu, the training addressed critical areas such as:

  • International maritime regulations
  • Cybersecurity
  • Risk assessment
  • Best practices in port security management

Promoting Excellence in Maritime Security
At the closing ceremony, RMU’s Provost, Dr. Denis Njumo Atehnjia, congratulated the participants for their active engagement and commitment throughout the training. He emphasized RMU’s dedication to advancing maritime training and equipping stakeholders with the skills necessary to safeguard Africa’s maritime and port infrastructure.

“RMU remains steadfast in its mission to provide world-class training that not only enhances technical expertise but also promotes collaboration and regional development in the maritime sector,” Dr. Atehnjia noted.

Fostering Regional Collaboration
Beyond technical training, the programme fostered regional cooperation and networking, allowing participants to share experiences and best practices in maritime security. This collaborative spirit was further enriched by a field visit to Tema Port, offering participants a practical perspective on port security operations.

A Commitment to Maritime Development
The training underscores RMU’s commitment to supporting Africa’s maritime development and addressing emerging security challenges. By empowering stakeholders with cutting-edge knowledge and skills, the university continues to strengthen the region’s capacity to manage and mitigate maritime risks effectively.
