A training of trainer’s workshop on the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for fishing vessels personnel (STCW-F), has ended at the Regional Maritime University (RMU).
The training which started from 14th and ended on 25th August, 2023 received the participation of fishing vessel personnel who were trained on the five mandatory short courses, drills at sea, practical exercises with fresh air devices, ergonomics, pyrotechnics and hazards of different types of fishing.
The training is part of some engagements under the Strategic Sector Cooperation in Maritime with the Danish Maritime Authority, the Ghana Maritime Authority and the Ghana Ports and Harbor Authority, the Regional Maritime University and the North Sea College. Facilitators of the training were from the Embassy of Denmark, in Ghana.
The training received at the RMU was in line with the requirements as enshrined in the International Maritime Organization Convention. As per the international standards, crews of seagoing fishing vessels are mandated to have a certification and minimum training in STCW-F. The convention and standards promote safety of life at sea by equipping the personnel with survival skills among many others.
