Dr. Denis Njumo Atehnjia, a Maritime International Civil Servant and Senior Lecturer, is an Alumnus of the Regional Maritime University. He was appointed Provost of RMU in 2020. 

Profile

Dr. Denis Njumo Atehnjia, a Maritime International Civil Servant and Senior Lecturer, is an Alumnus from the Regional Maritime University. He was appointed Provost of RMU in 2020. Prior to joining the Regional Maritime University as a Lecturer, he worked as a Senior Maritime Administrator in the Department of Maritime Affairs and Inland Waterways, Ministry of Transport, Cameroon. He was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to study PhD in Maritime Engineering with specialization in Shipyard Construction and Building in Liverpool John Moore’s University, UK. Dr. Atehnjia was nominated by the Ministry of Transport, Cameroon, to undergo further management studies in South Africa and Australia on Ocean Governance and Sustainable Fisheries sponsored by Commonwealth Scholarship Australia. Dr. Atehnjia was the Liaison Officer for industrial attachment in the Marine Engineering Department and served on various committees in the Regional Maritime University. He is a member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects and the Higher Education Academy, UK. He holds an Executive Certificate in Administration and Management.

 

Role as Provost:

As the Provost, he reports to the Vice Chancellor and serves as the Head of the Academic Sector of the University on behalf of the Vice Chancellor with the responsibility of providing efficient/effective teaching, learning, and research in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the Strategic Plan of the University. The Provost superintends the works of the faculties and departments to achieve the objectives of the academic sector and ensures that all courses developed are in accordance with University’s Quality Management System (QMS). He is responsible for the coordination and supervision of all activities of the Academic Sector of the University. The Provost also facilitates the timely provision of educational logistics, coordinates the appointment of teaching staff, provides input for the formulation of educational policies, and prepares short and long term educational plans of the University.
