The Department of Marine Electrical & Engineering of the RM organised a ‘Get-Acquainted Programme’ on Wednesday, March 4th , 2026, as part of efforts to foster a cordial relationship between lecturers and students and promote impactful teaching and learning.

The programme provided a platform for lecturers to enlighten students on their respective courses, expectations and academic requirements.
Students, in turn, were given the opportunity to ask questions, seek clarification on course outlines, and engage with their lecturers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr Isaac Owusu-Nyarko, underscored the importance of such engagements, noting that they help students become familiar with their lecturers beyond the classroom setting.
He explained that these interactions also boost students’ confidence, assuring them of their lecturers’ readiness and commitment to supporting their academic success.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Head of the Marine Electrical & Engineering Department, Mr Ebenezer Teigaga, who emphasized the need to intentionally create opportunities for meaningful interaction between staff and students.

Mr Levant Karabulut commended RMU for its efforts in training maritime professionals for the industry, particularly highlighting the University’s focus on increasing female enrollment and recruitment into the maritime sector.

He noted that ABS also places significant emphasis on female empowerment and strives to maintain a strong African representation within its workforce.

According to him, such initiatives help the department feel less like a formal institution and more like a family, where students recognise the faces behind the offices and staff see the individuals behind the index numbers. This, he noted, fosters approachability and accessibility on both sides.
Mr Teigaga also shared his vision for transforming the department and highlighted ongoing efforts aimed at improving the academic and social experience of students.
Mr Kwame-Boateng Entsuah also addressed the gathering, sharing his experiences with the students and commending the department for the thoughtful initiative.
