RMU Pays Courtesy Call on Ministry of Transport; Female Cadets Participate in Vice President’s Visit

Management and staff of the Regional Maritime University (RMU), led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr., on Thursday, January 15, 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Transport in Accra.

The delegation was received by newly appointed Chief Director of the Ministry of Transport, Mr William Kartey. The visit was aimed at familiarising and introducing the University’s core mandate and ongoing activities while welcoming and soliciting his support and collaboration going forward.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, together with the University Registrar, Dr Baboucarr Njie, Director of Finance, Madam Mary Frances Francis and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Dr Gabriel Akakpo, engaged in fruitful discussions with the Chief Director. Also present were the Head of the Business Development Centre (BDC), Madam Sika Attipoe, Acting Head of Public Relations, Mrs Hillary Agbolosoo and the Staff Representative, Mr Felix Okpoti Koney.

In his remarks, Dr Brooks briefed the Chief Director on the history, mandate, and objectives of RMU, and called for the Ministry’s support to enable the University to efficiently achieve its objectives, particularly with regard to the honouring of membership contributions.

He emphasized RMU’s readiness to build a strong working relationship with the sector ministry in its quest to enhance maritime education and training within the sub-region.

Mr Kartey, in his response, expressed delight at receiving the RMU delegation and indicated that he would reciprocate the gesture with a visit to the University in due course.

He disclosed that discussions had been held with partners to support RMU, noting that such efforts would soon materialize. He commended the University’s management for their dedication and expressed optimism about future engagements to address RMU’s concerns.

Consequently, on Friday, January 16, 2025, an all-female group of fresh cadets from RMU joined the Ministry of Transport to welcome the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, during her visit to the Ministry.

The Vice President was at the Ministry to engage stakeholders on concerns of extortion by some public transport operators, which has been causing financial discomfort to commuters.

She was received by the Minister of Transport, Mr Joseph Bukari Nikpe, his deputies, and other key stakeholders in the transport sector.

The RMU cadets mounted a guard of honour for the Vice President, who pleasantly interacted briefly with the students, expressing appreciation for the gesture.
