

Management, staff and fresh students at the orientation
Orientation for the January 2026 intake at the Regional Maritime University (RMU) was held from Wednesday, January 14, to Friday, January 16, 2026.
The three-day programme was aimed at helping new students adapt to their new environment and familiarise themselves with the University’s rules, regulations and academic culture.

At the opening session, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr., welcomed the fresh students to what he described as a community of thinkers, leaders and innovators. He emphasised that RMU prides itself on being more than just a place of study, but a center of transformation where curiosity is encouraged, diversity is celebrated and critical thinking is a way of life.

According to him, students would be exposed to new perspectives, challenged to think deeply, and invited to contribute meaningfully both inside and outside the classroom.
He further assured the students that management and staff of the University are committed to supporting them to excel academically and professionally.

Dr Brooks urged the freshmen and women to eschew all forms of vices, including sexual harassment, drug abuse and examination malpractices, and to uphold discipline, hard work, and mutual respect throughout their stay at the University.

He also highlighted RMU’s grievance management system and encouraged students to follow the appropriate channels in addressing any concerns.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, engaged students in an interactive question-and-answer session to test their knowledge of the University. With support from members of management and staff, including the University Registrar, Dr Baboucarr Njie, Director of Finance Madam Mary Frances Francis and the Academic Registrar, Mr Jones Addai-Marfo, students who responded correctly were rewarded with both kind and cash prizes.

The Provost, Dr Denis Atehnjia Njumo, also welcomed the new students and assured them that RMU would shape them into future leaders in the maritime sector.

He noted that the University’s programmes have been aligned with international standards to enable graduates to excel in the global maritime industry.

Presentations were also made by the Deans of the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Maritime Studies, Dr Isaac Owusu Nyarko and Mr Emmanuel Sena Gohoho, who provided overviews of their respective faculties.

Additional presentations were delivered by the Deputy Registrar (Academic) and Moderator for the session, Dr Stephen A. Dehlor, the Head of Research and Innovation, Dr Robert Nyemah, the Examination Coordinator, Mrs Selina Ansah-Gamel and the Librarian, Dr Amy Asimah.
