The Staff Excellence Awards of the RMU recognizes and rewards outstanding staff who consistently excel on their positions and demonstrate integrity and a strong commitment to the mission and values of the Regional Maritime University. Another purpose is to ignite a desire of excellence, a requisite in the corporate environment.
Criteria for review of nominations includes, outstanding achievements and performance; personal interaction and substantial demonstration of willingness to work positively, respectfully and effectively with others; initiative and creativity among many.
On the day of the 13th congregation ceremony, Management of the University awarded outstanding staff for their immense contribution to the Institution. Names of awardees are outlined below;

Excellence Award – Non-Teaching Staff, Senior Category, Mr. Edmund Addoboye Anang – Internal Auditor
Excellence Award – Junior Category, Mrs. Evelyn Asabere-Adjei – Reprographer
Capt. Darkey Dedicated Service Awards won by Ing. Augustus Addy-Lamptey, Provost of the Regional Maritime University and Ing. Joseph Mante.

Capt. Darkey Dedicated Service Awards
The first award, “Capt. Darkey Dedicated Service Awards has been instituted in memory of the late Capt. George Lovelace Yao Darkey, who contributed immensely to the development of the Nautical Studies programmes both at the Bachelors and Upgrader levels.
Capt. Darkey, was the Dean of the faculty of Maritime studies and it is on record that, he was instrumental in luring a lot of seasoned seafarers including Capt. Turkson, who later became the Rector of the Institution, to take up employment in then Regional Maritime Academy.
The award is a cash prize of US$400.000 and a citation. The award was won by two namely Ing. Augustus Addy-Lamptey, Provost of the Regional Maritime University and Ing. Joseph Mante,

Citation for Mrs. Evelyn Quartey, Marketing Officer- Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award
Employed by the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in January, 1990 and currently the Marketing Officer. As Marketing Officer, you have taken responsibility to uphold the RMU Brand. This year, 2019, you adopted aggressive and integrated marketing communication strategies to reach wider target and focus groups and the success of this has improved student enrolments and raised public awareness and interest in the University’s programmes and mandate. You are a testimony to the Core Values of RMU.
The Vice Chancellor in recognition of your admirable work ethic, innovation and sterling contribution towards the goals and strategic objectives of RMU acknowledges your selfless devotion to work and awards you the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award for 2019.

For your commitment to the development of School of Graduate Studies of the University, you are versatile and highly committed to designing programme manuals, facilitation of the graduate programmes while at the same time playing pivotal role in the teaching and learning in your specialized field in the Department of Transport. You are a team player and an astute professional. You have contributed immensely towards many excellent academic discussions and Committees. Your excellent leadership is visible.
The University acknowledges you as an outstanding worker who deserves the Staff Excellence Award in the Senior Teaching Category for 2019.

“You joined the Regional Maritime University in October, 2004 as Audit Clerk and rose through the ranks to the position of Internal Auditor. You are dependable, magnanimous and committed to the service of the University and the Internal Audit. you have demonstrated professionalism in the discharge of your duties and your firm and uncompromising character has yielded tremendous benefits to the University. You are not limited to your roles to Audit, but you are ready and available to take up other roles assigned to you”.

Citation for Excellence Award – Junior Category, Mrs. Evelyn Asabere-Adjei – Reprographer
For your stewardship to the University, you have been the backbone of documentation and reprography, highly efficient in your profession as astute Graphic Designer. You are consistently dependable and singlehandedly produced tones of sensitive working documents and course materials for the weekly run short courses. You willingly accept and carry out additional responsibilities with no hesitation. Your technical competency is attested to by many as you meet your performance targets with ease. The University acknowledges your selfless devotion to work and awards you the Staff Excellence Award in the Junior Category for 2019.

Other Staff who have served more than 25 years in the University were also awarded. They were awarded with cash prizes and deep freezers.
