RMU Class 2/1 Deck Unlimited students donate air conditioners and ceiling fans to enhance campus facilities

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the 2024/25 batch of Class 2/1 Deck Unlimited students from the Regional Maritime University (RMU) demonstrated their commitment to the institution by donating air conditioners and ceiling fans. This generous gesture aims to enhance the university’s infrastructure and foster a more conducive environment for learning and professional development.

The donation was spearheaded by Captain Catherine Haizel, a senior lecturer in the Nautical Science Department of RMU. Captain Haizel’s leadership reflects the ethos of responsibility and giving back that is deeply ingrained in the maritime profession. Through her guidance, the students have showcased the ongoing contributions of seafarers to the well-being of their alma mater while advancing their careers in the dynamic maritime industry.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr., expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the university’s management and the entire RMU community. He commended the students for their thoughtful initiative and underscored the importance of such acts in strengthening the university’s resources.

This donation is a testament to the sense of responsibility and dedication exhibited by our students and alumni. It highlights the enduring bond between RMU and the maritime professionals it trains. We are deeply appreciative of this gesture and encourage other seafarers, maritime enthusiasts, and stakeholders to emulate this spirit of giving back to the institution. Dr. Brooks said.

The newly installed air conditioners and ceiling fans will significantly improve the comfort of classrooms and lecture halls, ensuring a better learning environment for both current and future students. This act of generosity underscores the enduring impact of RMU’s alumni and students in fostering a legacy of excellence and community development. RMU remains committed to training competent maritime professionals who not only excel in their fields but also contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the maritime industry and the university community.
