REGIONAL MARITIME UNIVERSITY

GRADING AND CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM

Prior to the 2003/2004 academic year, the university was running only certificate and Higher Diploma programmes.  From the 2003/2004 academic year the semester/course credit system was instituted.

THE GRADING SYSTEM

Since the adoption of the semester/course-credit system, the grading system has been as follows:

 REPEATED COURSES

 For 2003/2004 – 2006/2007 academic years all passes re-sit scores were converted to a pass mark of 40%.

 From 2007/2008 academic year all passes re-sit scores are AUDITED and included in the calculation of Final Grade Point Average (FGPA).

 

CLASSIFICATION OF THE DEGREE AND DIPLOMAS

The classification of the undergraduate degree is based on the value of the Final Grade Point Average (FGPA).  All courses taken are included in the calculation of the FGPA (Final Grade Point Average) except exemptions.

 From 2003/2004 to 2007/2008 academic year, the classification was as follows:

 Also, the following clauses are attached for the award of degrees:

To qualify for a First Class Degree or Diploma a student shall not earn a Grade Lower than C+ in any of the courses during the four-year programme.

In the case of a Second Upper Degree or Diploma a student shall not obtain a Grade Lower than C+ in more than two courses in major disciplines.

A Second Class Lower Degree or Diploma aspirant who obtains a Grade Lower than C+ in more than two courses in a major discipline shall be offered a Third Class Degree or Diploma.

For the Award of an Honors Degree or Diploma a student is expected to obtain a cumulative FGPA of 3.5 and above.

Beginning of 2008/2009 academic year the classification was changed as follows, and the above clauses removed.
